Beyond PTZ

A Camera That Follows Is Half the Idea

An auto tracking security camera pans and tilts to keep a subject in frame, so your footage is better. That's real, and it's also the ceiling: tracking only matters if something happens because of it. PerimeterEye tracks with a motorized searchlight and a live, targeted AI voice — so the person being followed knows it, in the moment.

What changes

Tracking the Subject Can Feel

  • A PTZ tracks so the footage is better; PerimeterEye tracks so the intruder knows.
  • Searchlight lock-and-follow plus a live voice that describes the specific person in frame.
  • Verification first: family, guests, and couriers are recognized, never chased.

Auto tracking solved a camera problem: subjects walking out of frame. PerimeterEye starts from the property problem: a person is approaching, and nothing on site responds. Its tracking is a motorized searchlight that locks onto a verified subject and follows, paired with a live AI voice that addresses them specifically.

The comparison isn't camera versus camera — 4K cameras with instant rewind are in every package. It is silent tracking versus tracking as the second rung of an automatic ladder that ends in a 130 dB siren and live-video alerts, with you in command from the app or the wall panel.

What every system includes

  • 4K AI cameras
  • Tracking searchlights
  • Live targeted AI voice
  • 130 dB siren escalation

  • iOS app with live 4K video

01

What auto tracking actually buys you

Credit where due: PTZ auto tracking is a real upgrade over a fixed lens. The camera detects a person, then pans, tilts, and zooms to keep them centered as they cross the yard. You get one continuous, well-framed shot instead of a subject sliding out of frame — genuinely better footage than a static camera can produce.

But notice what improved: the recording. The person in the yard experiences a small dark dome doing nothing they can perceive. Auto tracking, as sold, is a cinematography feature. The scene it captures unfolds exactly as it would have unfolded in front of a fixed camera.

02

Tracking only matters if something happens because of it

Ask what the tracking is for. If the answer is better evidence after the fact, a PTZ delivers. If the answer is changing what happens on the property tonight, silent tracking contributes nothing — a subject can't be deterred by a pan motor they can't see or hear. Monitoring products in this category watch, record, and notify; the acting part is left to you, at 2 AM, over a phone speaker.

Offender research backs up the distinction. In an industry-funded survey of 422 incarcerated burglars (Kuhns et al., 2013), target selection was driven by perceptible signs of security — the sense of being seen — alongside escape routes and nearby people. A camera tracking flawlessly in silence produces beautiful footage of an undeterred person.

03

PerimeterEye tracks with a searchlight and a voice

PerimeterEye is an Automatic Property Defense System, and its tracking is built to be felt. When the AI verifies someone who shouldn't be there, a motorized searchlight — 355 degrees of rotation, 90 of tilt, output homeowners compare to a police helicopter beam — locks onto them and follows every step they take.

Then it speaks. Not a pre-recorded warning: a live, targeted AI voice describing the specific person in frame — "You, in the dark hoodie — you are not authorized to be on this property." Being followed by a beam while a voice describes your own clothing removes every comfortable ambiguity about whether anyone noticed.

The 4K cameras still capture everything, and the tracked subject stays brightly lit — which incidentally makes the footage better than any dome PTZ shooting in the dark. But the recording is the byproduct here. The point of tracking is what it does to the moment itself, while you watch live from the app.

04

Verified first, so tracking means something

A PTZ that chases everything is a toy; a searchlight that chases everything is a nuisance. PerimeterEye verifies before it acts, and it knows the household — family arrivals, registered guests, deliveries, and mail carriers never trigger deterrence. Every event still gets a full plain-language AI analysis and a live threat classification, searchable later in plain English.

When the target is real, the full ladder stands behind the light: verify, lock on and follow, targeted live voice, then a 130 dB siren with priority alerts and live video to your phone. You can watch, talk through two-way audio, or take manual control at any rung — and it all runs on the on-site Brain, so it keeps working through an internet outage.

05

Where a PTZ still fits — and where it doesn't

If you're an operator watching a large commercial site from a control room, PTZ auto tracking is a fine tool for the job it was designed for: keeping a distant subject framed for a human who is already watching. That is the context the technology grew up in, and it does that job well.

A home is the opposite context: nobody is in the control room at 2 AM, which is precisely when tracking matters most. If you're comparing auto-tracking cameras for a house, you're really shopping for an outcome — someone approaches, and the property responds. That is a defense-system feature, not a camera feature, and it is the step past the PTZ aisle.

What separates PerimeterEye

A camera that follows, and a light that follows.

An auto-tracking camera keeps the person in frame. PerimeterEye keeps them in the light.

Tracking is half the idea. The other half is what the person experiences while you track them.

Common questions

Is PerimeterEye an auto tracking PTZ camera?

No — it's an Automatic Property Defense System that includes 4K AI cameras and motorized tracking searchlights. The tracking that matters is done with light and voice: a searchlight locks onto a verified person and follows them while a live AI voice describes them aloud. The cameras document everything in parallel.

Doesn't better footage itself deter intruders?

Cameras carry some deterrent weight — offender interviews (Kuhns et al., 2013, an industry-funded survey of 422 incarcerated burglars) list outdoor cameras among the visible signs of security that shape target choice. But a silently panning dome sends no signal in the moment. A beam that follows and a voice that describes the person are unambiguous.

Will it track my family or the dog across the yard?

No. The AI verifies before anything moves and knows the household, so family, registered guests, and deliveries never trigger deterrence. Every event is still analyzed and logged in plain language. The searchlight-and-voice response is reserved for people and vehicles the system cannot account for.

What happens after the system starts tracking someone?

The ladder continues automatically: searchlight lock and follow, a live targeted voice warning, then a 130 dB siren with priority alerts and live 4K video to your phone. You can watch, speak through two-way audio, or take manual control at any point. PerimeterEye is not an alarm-monitoring service — alerts and control go directly to you.

What does tracking with light and voice change for an intruder?

It removes the ambiguity intruders count on. Being seen, described, and followed is the strongest signal short of a person walking outside. In the infrared footage on this page, the person raised a hand against the light within seconds and turned away four seconds after it landed. Everything is documented in 4K, and you are alerted live.
