Car Collection Defense Starts at the Property Line
Researching car collection security for a home garage? Modern collector theft rarely starts at the car — it starts at the property line, with a scout pass days earlier. PerimeterEye is an Automatic Property Defense System: an unknown vehicle enters, the plate is read, a searchlight locks on and follows, a live AI voice challenges the person in frame, and you watch it all live from anywhere.

Five seconds from the door handle to running away.
Stills from the film with its on-screen analysis and phone alert, on the Front Door 2 camera’s own clock. The door handle registers at 21:04:26. By 21:04:29 all systems are activated, and at 21:04:31 the person is running.

The first alert
The person in the black hoodie is at the car, and the first alert already describes them: at the vehicle in the driveway, and has not approached the house.
2 of 6 · 21:04:26View full size
Contact with the door handle
The person reaches for the driver’s door. The analysis builds second by second: a person, no match to anyone it knows, loitering at the vehicle, and now contact with the door handle.

Car theft in progress
Three seconds after the door handle, the analysis is complete: the activity doesn’t match the household’s patterns and matches vehicle theft. All systems activate.

The searchlight lands
The searchlight hits the person at the driver’s door. The alert reads: spotlight, voice warning and siren activated, with a tap to cancel the escalation.

Running, and the beam follows
Five seconds after touching the door handle, the person is running down the drive, and the searchlight has moved with them, away from the car.

Followed away from the car
The searchlight follows the person past the tree and along the drive. The car hasn’t moved.
Filmed September 15, 2026, on a real property. The break-in was staged for filming; the system’s response was automatic, with no operator.
What changes
Why collectors defend the driveway, not just the garage
- Plate read at the entrance — the transporter is expected, the scout is not.
- A searchlight that locks on and follows, covering detached garages and outbuildings.
- A live targeted AI voice tells the person in frame they've been seen and described.
The economics of collector theft favor preparation: a stolen collectible justifies days of scouting, and the scouting looks like ordinary traffic. Defense that starts at the garage door concedes all of that lead time. Defense that starts at the plate read concedes none of it.
PerimeterEye puts identification at the entrance, a tracking searchlight and live voice in the driveway, and 4K documentation over all of it — while you watch live from the paddock, the office, or the other coast. The property itself objects, immediately and on the record, to anyone it can't account for.

01
The theft starts with a scout, not at the garage door
Collections get stolen the way banks get robbed — with homework. A slow drive past the gate, a knock to test whether anyone's home, a look at where the transporter parks on delivery day. In KGW-TV's 2017 interviews with 86 convicted burglars (journalistic, not peer-reviewed), essentially all said they knocked or rang first to test occupancy. The reconnaissance happens in daylight, looking harmless.
That's why a garage-only alarm defends the wrong line. By the time a door sensor trips, the crew has already answered every question that mattered: who's home, what's inside, how fast they can be gone. The useful intervention is earlier — at the driveway, on the scout pass, while the visit is still a question being asked.
02
Defense begins in the driveway
PerimeterEye treats the property line as the perimeter of the collection. The entrance camera reads plates and checks them against a registry of known vehicles — yours, your detailer's, the enclosed transporter you're expecting Thursday. Unknown vehicles get classified with a live threat level, and every event gets a full plain-language AI analysis you can search later.
When an unknown vehicle noses in at 2 a.m., the ladder runs: the system verifies a real subject, a motorized searchlight locks on and physically follows it — owners compare the effect to a police helicopter spotlight — and a live AI voice addresses the specific person in frame. Keep pushing and a 130 dB siren fires while priority alerts reach your phone with live video.
03
Built for how collectors actually store cars
Collections don't live in attached two-car garages. They live in detached buildings, pole barns, and converted shops — often on the far side of the property, past the lifts and the trickle chargers, where a house alarm has no opinion. PerimeterEye's cameras and tracking searchlights cover outbuildings as first-class territory, and the two-way audio works out there too.
Whether it's an air-cooled 911, a small-block Cobra, or a numbers-matching Chevelle, the pattern is the same: high value, instantly recognizable, impossible to move without telling the street what's inside. The nightly Perimeter Sweep — a configurable, visible spotlight patrol an hour after sunset that never crosses your boundary — makes the property read as attended even when you're at an auction three states away.
04
Transport days, service visits, and the people you trust
Collector life has traffic: transporters, detailers, mechanics making house calls, club friends stopping by. PerimeterEye classifies visitors, service workers, and deliveries distinctly, knows the household, and lets you set the day's posture in one tap — Visitor mode for a large cars-and-coffee gathering, High Alert for the week you're away.
The AI Doorman on the PerimeterEye Access intercom handles the gate conversation when you can't, and the searchable event history answers the questions that come up later: which white enclosed trailer was here last Tuesday, what time the detailer left, whether anyone approached the shop door after dark.
05
Documentation in 4K, start to finish
Every event is recorded in 4K with a written AI analysis attached — the slow pass on Tuesday, the same plate returning Friday, the person who walked the fence line at 3 a.m. Clips export straight from the iOS app, and instant DVR rewind means you can scrub back through the night from wherever you are.
For insured collections, that record strengthens every conversation — agreed-value discussions, claims, underwriting — because time-stamped 4K evidence beats recollection. A documented defense system may also help you qualify for a discount — ask your carrier. And one number worth knowing: in a 2013 UNC Charlotte survey of 422 incarcerated burglars (an industry-funded study), roughly 60% said they would seek another target if they discovered an alarm was present.
What separates PerimeterEye
During the theft, or after it?
Car-based protection guards each car’s own systems. PerimeterEye covers the place the collection is kept.
| Option | While a car is being taken | Once it’s gone |
|---|---|---|
| Immobilizer or kill switch | Blocks the engine from starting. A tow truck never needs to start it, and a relay device or a stolen key gets past a factory immobilizer. | Nothing. |
| Steering-wheel or pedal lock | Makes driving it away slow and obvious, but rides along when the car is lifted onto a truck. | Nothing. |
| GPS tracker or tag | Nothing happens at the car. | Helps locate the car, unless the tracker was found and removed. |
| Car alarm | Sounds the horn when a door, or on some cars a tilt sensor, is triggered. Nobody is told who is there. | Nothing. |
| Cameras and floodlights | Record it and send a motion alert. A fixed light may switch on, but it doesn’t follow anyone. | A recording of the theft. |
| PerimeterEye | Finds the person at the car with a tracking searchlight, speaks to them, and escalates to a 130 dB siren within seconds, while you watch live and can talk to them yourself. | The Event Timeline keeps the whole event: the camera views, the analysis, and every response. |

Common questions
My garage is detached and sits 200 feet from the house. Is that a problem?
It's the design case. Cameras and tracking searchlights are placed to cover outbuildings, shops, and barns as primary territory — with two-way audio and 4K recording at the building itself. The Medium and Estate packages, with 7 and 12+ cameras, exist precisely for properties where the collection lives away from the house.
How does it handle transport day without a false alarm?
You add expected vehicles to the known-vehicle registry, and the AI classifies service and delivery visits distinctly from unknowns. The transporter is recognized at the entrance and logged with a full written analysis; you can watch the load-out live and talk through the cameras. Modes set the day's posture in one tap.
What actually happens if someone scouts my property?
The pass is captured in 4K, the plate is read, and the event gets a written AI analysis with a threat level. If the same vehicle returns, the pattern shows up in your searchable history and daily briefing. After dark, an approach triggers the searchlight, a live targeted voice warning, and escalating alerts.
Will PerimeterEye lower my collector car insurance?
We only claim what we can stand behind: it may help you qualify for a discount — ask your carrier. What it reliably provides is time-stamped 4K evidence and a written AI analysis of every event, which strengthens any claim, appraisal, or underwriting conversation you will ever have about the collection.
What does PerimeterEye do when someone goes for the collection?
It identifies vehicles at the entrance, locks a searchlight onto the intruder, challenges them with live targeted speech, sounds a 130 dB siren, and alerts you with live video in seconds. In the filmed vehicle break-in, the person went from the door handle to running away in five seconds. No security system can guarantee prevention of every incident.
Can I check on the cars while I'm traveling?
Yes — live 4K on every camera from the iOS app, instant DVR rewind, clip export, and two-way talk from anywhere. The nightly Perimeter Sweep keeps the property visibly patrolled while you're gone, and core defense keeps running through internet outages because everything runs on the on-site Brain.
